School Dances (Oh boy)

What are your opinions about school dances? Do you feel that you are constantly being observed by your superiors or not observed enough? I feel that dances should be a place for strictly dancing and an occasional nonalcoholic beverage. However, school dances for me have turned out to be a popularity contest. It comes down to: 1. Who can do the best dance moves? 2. Who is the most provocative dancer? 3. Why do I feel so out of place against all these people?

The meaning of a dance has changed from honest fun to demeaning and expensive work. I'm not the only one who feels this way, I'm sure. For example, a group of friends and I decided not to go to the 10th grade formal (aka- harvest queen dance) due to the dances not being fun anymore and the ten dollar entrance fee. Instead, we threw an Anti-Harvest Queen Party at a friend's house and I'm so glad that I did. No pressure of whether or not I look stupid, or is someone watching me, or watching others get arrested for content of alcohol. So I guess the theme of this article is to make the right choices in high school that has an end result of the most responsible fun you can have.

talk about ringing true. Whats wrong with this whole system. I heard that athelets were caught drinking and when threatened to get suspended the parents said they would sue.

Recently one family said they were going to file a suit for a football coach because their son didnt get enough playing time.

If our schools cant stand up to their own rule then how are we supposed to respect and abide by them.

Maybe if we all had to wear uniforms we wouldnt feel so much pressure. Same outfits. Save money on clothes. We all look the same. If you do or dont have money you cant tell by the clothes. Its not just dances...its the whole place. Names on shirts to show brands. Back packs...shoes. It sucks.

i agree 100%
i've completely given up on dances
they're not even fun
you can't dance unless you're grinding with someone, and not everyone does that
whats the point of a dance if you're not gonna dance
