An experience you won't regret!
The National Youth Leader’s Conference or NYLC is a conference that is held in Washington DC for high school students around the United States. For ten days (from August 2-11) I learned about how the government works and actually partook in the bill writing, lobbying, debating process, and much more. I met important people within the government buildings and I visited so many great sites in Washington DC. On fieldtrips, I went to Alexandria, Georgetown, and Chinatown in Washington DC. NYLC days are incredibly long and busy. However, I’d forget that I was tired because the scholars are so much fun to be around. We were always laughing about something. Session four, which is the week that I went, there were 275 scholars. Each day, I thought I couldn’t possibly meet anyone else. But it seemed that everyday I met at least three new people. There wasn’t one person that I disliked. By the end of the conference, no one wanted to leave and we were all a close-knit family. A bunch of us got teary-eyed at our last Leadership Group Meeting and during the farewell speeches. NYLC is a journey that I will never forget. I made connections with people from all over the nation and obtained knowledge that couldn’t be taught in school. I highly recommend NYLC because it truly was the experience of a lifetime.
