You have a voice. SPEAK UP!

Warwick Valley High School is one of the best educational institutions in Orange County, New York. Crime and drug rates are lower than most by approximately thirty-seven percent. Many students have also been able to maintain their position as honor role students. In addition, the teachers are great and they give their students the help they need to succeed. However, WVHS is not perfect. There is always room for change, so why don’t we?

The Warwick school system has achieved a high standard of learning for the middle class community it exemplifies. I always see and hear that if a student feels that change is needed, tell someone, let people know what you think. Yet, when a controversial thought is expressed, it gets tossed so it doesn’t have to be dealt with! Why bother asking for an opinion at all?

Teenagers are truly a confusing species and are difficult to entertain. However, I feel that if we were offered more of a choice with the selection of courses, we would enjoy school more than we already do and go farther than intended. Do you have a course in mind that interests you, but is not offered? Speak up! I’ve noticed a decrease in the vocalization of opinions because they are not counted for. Don’t muffle your opinions to avoid problems. The key is to create controversy. Your small idea may turn into a massive change toward our school or even our town! Speak up and let’s change for the better!

This is such a positive, enlightening, well-written, and mature article... I can't believe the author of it was called into the WVCS Supt's office & interegated about its contents. What ever happened to freedom of speech? There is no radical tone here, but just a way for students to vent their frustrations.

What is the opposite of "The Alternative"? Frustrated teen resorting to violence, drugs/alcohol, and drop-outs.

I say Kudos to the high school author & its contents!
