Armenian Genocide

1915 was a devastating year for Armenia. Armenia was a nation controlled by the Ottoman Empire (today it is known as Turkey.) According to my references, Armenia was posed as a threat to the Ottoman Empire. Armenia and Russia were allies. As a result, fear surfaced among the Turks. The Turks wanted to remain in power over their nation and Armenia and murder was how it was handled. However, this was much more than murder; it was a genocide. Genocide is the extermination of a race, religious or cultural group. Starvation, hanging, decapitation, beating, burning, and abandoning Armenian men, women, and children were the methods the Turks used to maintain power. There was no escaping the horrors of witnessing the death of the Armenian people. On top of all this destruction was World War One. The early 1900's were not a good time to be living anywhere in the world. Even though we have our problems in the 21st century, I'm glad that's the period of time I am living in.
